Interview
Nicole Boghossian
Hello Nicole,
Today, we’re privileged to speak with Nicole Boghossian, an alumna of the École Hôtelière de Genève (EHG), who has forged a remarkable path in the luxury and lifestyle industry. As founder and managing director of NBoghossian Consulting, Nicole shares her inspiring journey, challenges and successes, offering invaluable advice to future, current and former EHG students.
Nicole, congratulations on your latest venture. Can you tell us what led you to choose the EHG and what this experience has brought you professionally and personally?
Thank you for your time. My arrival in Geneva was a happy coincidence. After completing my studies at the hotel school in Bellinzona, Ticino, I spent eight months in Australia. It was during this trip that I decided to return to Switzerland to further my training in the hotel industry. When I discovered that the EHG offered a complementary course to my initial training, I immediately decided to enroll.
This training has taught me attention to detail, priority management and a sense of service. Attention to detail has enabled me to aim for impeccable quality in everything I do. Priority management has helped me adapt to different situations and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. My sense of service has taught me to always place the customer at the heart of my actions, by offering exceptional, personalized experiences. These skills continue to guide my professional approach and contribute to my success in the industry.
How did you get started in the luxury and lifestyle industry after graduating from EHG? Can you tell us about your first professional experiences?
After graduating, I worked for eight years in various Geneva palaces, including Hôtel des Bergues, La Réserve, Le Richemond and the Kempinski (now Fairmont). I started out as a sales manager, before becoming PR manager. My curiosity and creativity gradually steered me towards marketing and communications, fields in which I’ve been passionately involved for fifteen years now.
You worked as Public Relations Manager at Kempinski Hotels and then as International Communications Manager at Caran d'Ache. How have these experiences enriched your understanding of public relations and communications in the luxury goods industry?
Working for a luxury hotel chain helped me understand the importance of exclusivity, customer experience and brand image. I learned how to manage high expectations and create memorable experiences for demanding customers, which is essential in the luxury sector.
At Caran d’Ache, I developed a deep understanding of craftsmanship, innovation and heritage. I learned and understood the importance of communicating these values effectively and the impact this has on brand image.
You then joined Bulgari as Marketing & Communications Manager. Can you tell us about your role and the main projects you worked on?
My nine years at Bulgari were extremely rewarding, enabling me to work with some extraordinary people. My role was to boost brand awareness and desirability, retain existing customers and attract new ones. To achieve this, I implemented various strategies, including events, CRM, visual merchandising, press and public relations, and partnerships.
What motivated you to launch your own company, NBoghossian Consulting, after your experiences at Bulgari and Caran d'Ache?
After twenty years in the corporate world, I felt the need for a change and to discover what it’s like to be on the other side. After several months of reflection, I decided to take the plunge and start my own business. I’ve always needed new challenges to stimulate me, and I have absolutely no regrets about this decision.

What were the biggest challenges you faced in setting up your own company, and how did you overcome them?
- Collaborative
- Teams must take ownership of the hotel’s projects. To a certain extent, it must be their ideas that they have to defend and achieve.
- I think this style helps develop the leadership skills of the future managers of my hotel.
What personal qualities and skills do you think it takes to be a leader?
I’m an impatient person, always looking for immediate results. I’ve had to learn to let go, because you can’t control everything, which has meant working on myself. Faced with strong competition in the market, I also had to identify ways of standing out and defining my true added value.
Can you share some tips or advice on how to succeed in the luxury and lifestyle sector? What are the main pain points you've encountered in your career and how did you overcome them?
To succeed in this sector, three things are essential: curiosity, open-mindedness and creativity. These qualities enable us to stay on top of trends, continually innovate and exceed the expectations of demanding customers. I focused my efforts on developing strong relationships within my network. I have also encouraged innovation within my team, constantly seeking to surprise our customers and partners with new and innovative actions.
What are the main current and future trends in the luxury goods industry, and how do you think they will shape the future of the sector?
Sustainability and social responsibility are becoming more and more crucial, especially in the eyes of new generations aware of environmental and social impact. Luxury brands are expected to take concrete action regarding their sourcing of raw materials.
This includes not only the use of sustainable and ethical materials, but also the guarantee of rigorous traceability throughout their supply chain.
As a woman in a leadership role, what advice would you give to young women aspiring to management positions?
Have confidence in yourself. Don’t be afraid of failure; if you have an idea, fight to make it a reality. Your reputation and your network will be your best allies.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self? In your opinion, what are the key skills needed to succeed in the luxury industry?
Listen to your instincts and always keep your goal in sight. Whether in the luxury goods industry or in life in general, making a difference is the key to success.
What's your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is the many opportunities that arise every day and the enriching exchanges with my customers and partners. These interactions are an immense source of inspiration for my creativity. Each new encounter brings not only stimulating challenges, but also fresh perspectives.
What are your main objectives and priorities for the future with NBoghossian Consulting?
We are focusing on two key objectives: to continue diversifying our customer portfolio by offering innovative services, and to open an office in Zurich to strengthen our strategic presence in Switzerland.
Do you have a special moment to share from your studies at EHG?
20 years ago… it’s hard to remember a precise moment, but what I do remember clearly is the warm welcome I received from my fellow students and teachers as soon as I arrived. Their support and encouragement enabled me to integrate quickly and feel at ease in this new environment.
